Water Flow — Softening into the Heart
Hip Flexor Focus · Final Class of January
This Water-themed class marked the final practice of our January hip-flexor focus, inviting us to soften effort and integrate the work of the month through fluid, responsive movement.
We moved gently toward Camatkarasana (Wild Thing) as a peak transition, exploring heart opening that emerged from release rather than force. Opening through Puppy Pose, we allowed the chest and shoulders to melt while staying spacious in the hips. In Malasana, the hips remained wide and grounded — creating stability without gripping, depth without control.
The flow continued into a supported Vasiṣṭhāsana with the knee down, followed by a playful, wave-like variation of Thread the Needle, encouraging mobility, curiosity, and soft strength — especially through the hip flexors we’ve been exploring all month.
After the peak transitions, the practice cooled and turned inward with Reclined Figure Four and nourishing twists, rinsing the hips, spine, and nervous system. We closed by folding into stillness with Halasana or Paścimottānāsana, allowing the body to fully absorb and integrate the work of January.
A closing practice for the month — not to push further, but to let go, soften the hip flexors, and trust what unfolds when effort dissolves into flow.
