Water Element: Matsyasana (Fish Pose)
This Water Element Power Asanas class explores Matsyasana (Fish Pose), a traditional heart-opening backbend that asks for both strength and mobility through the shoulders, upper back, and chest.
We begin by building stability in the posterior chain with prone back-strengthening drills, crocodile-sphinx variations, dolphin work, side planks, and balance challenges before gradually working towards shoulder stand and Fish Pose. Along the way, you’ll explore several variations of Matsyasana, from a gentle supported version to more traditional and advanced expressions.
Expect a playful blend of strength, mobility, balance, and backbending, all woven together through a mandala-inspired flow designed to prepare the body intelligently for the peak pose.
This class is part of our June Water Element series and finishes with a long guided relaxation inspired by the qualities of water: softness, trust, adaptability, and flow.
