Air Element — Standing Mermaid | Playfulness & Freedom

A playful Air element practice designed to create lightness, freedom, and openness in both body and mind.

We began with gentle twists and an active Down Dog to awaken the legs and create stability, followed by Vayu Namaskara — the Air Salutation — to connect movement with breath and flow. Core activation came through Navasana variations, waking up the obliques and creating strength for balance and control.

From there, we explored active leg flexibility and hip opening through Lizard and Juicy Lizard, preparing the body for Mermaid variations. In the second flow, we played with Warrior III variations and Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana, building balance, mobility, and confidence before arriving at our peak pose: Standing Mermaid, using a strap to help reach the foot with ease and freedom.

We closed with softer grounding shapes in Ardha Paschimottanasana and a yin variation of Fish Pose (Matsyasana), creating spaciousness through the heart and hips.

A practice to remind you that strength can feel light, flexibility can feel joyful, and freedom often begins when we allow ourselves to play.
